What's New for the 2019 Mazda MX-5?

In 2019, the Mazda MX-5 has more power, technology, and overall prestige than before. This year's coupe comes in two trim levels, which are the Club and the Grand Touring. Even with the Club, which is the base model, you'll get a number of standard amenities including leather seats, a seven-inch infotainment display screen, and a more powerful 2.0L engine, which makes the MX-5 faster than ever before.

Furthermore, the engine was carefully designed specifically for the MX-5, which means it has cutting-edge technology and components that give the convertible its unique spirit. In addition to more power, the MX-5 also gets a safety upgrade in the form of more standard accident avoidance features, including a safe city braking system, and it also has a premium interior with high-end leather finishes.

Which Features are Available for 2019?

The base model of the MX-5 is called the Club. With this trim level, you can look forward to a number of standard amenities such as 17-inch alloy wheels, which come standard in a metallic black, and high-end Bilstein shock absorbers that are designed to absorb impact so that you don't feel bumps or uneven surfaces when you're driving. Heated seats, which are standard, are especially appreciated on cold winter days. The seats are also leather-trimmed, which adds a touch of finesse to the Club's interior. In the technology department, a seven-inch display touchscreen is standard. This infotainment system features HD radio, internet radio, and SMS text message receipt on the road. LED lights are standard in the front and back, and the Club has a special defogger feature in the back window.

Completing its standard features are an auxiliary cable jack and a retractable top that folds down in an impressive 13 seconds. The next trim level is called the Grand Touring. This trim adds even more in the way of standard amenities with rain-sensing wipers, a navigation system included in the infotainment system, a multi-function command center, HD radio, high-performance 17-inch wheels, an auxiliary input jack, multiple USB charging ports, and a driver's side mirror that dims automatically. The Grand Touring also comes with a number of standard safety features including city brake support, which applies the brakes if the car detects that you're in in danger of hitting another car, a pedestrian, a bicycle, or another object in front, and heated seats with three different levels.

Custom accents throughout the interior give the Grand Touring a distinct look, and you can get a number of add-on features and packages, such as the Brembo package with premier sporty accents, to give your MX-5 a customized look. Additional safety features are available as a package, and you also have a choice of two exterior paint colors (Machine Gray Metallic and Soul Red Crystal Metallic) at an added cost.

What are the Powertrain Choices?

This engine is a 2.0L, four-cylinder Skyactiv engine that generates over 25 more HP than the previous year's engine. In 2019, the MX-5 engine is capable of producing up to 181 HP at 7,000 RPM and up to 151 LB-FT of torque at 4,000 RPM. The engine features innovative technology, such as an electronically regulated fuel injection, to make the MX-5 as powerful as possible without losing efficiency. The engine can be paired with either a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
